Take-aways from QuiltCon 2023 (1)

Chatting in front of my quilt

I'm still absorbing all the wonderful work that I saw in Atlanta last week at QuiltCon, and I thought I would share a few things that spoke to me.

The first thing that I want to celebrate is the "Modern X" challenge. This year was the 10th QuiltCon, so one of the challenges was to create a quilt based on "X", the Roman numeral for ten.  I love prompts that cause us to think and create in our own individual way. It's always amazing to see the different ways people tackle the same problem.

Here are a few examples.

Some quilters focused on the individual symbol:

Row 1: Marie Costelloe, Laura Bryant, Dianne McCarthy

Row 2: Natalie Skinner, Amanda Hines, Pat Fortser

Row 3: Nikki Woolsey, Claudia Banks, Cordelia Nance

Row 4: Jessica Plunkett, Marisa Wilhelmi, Jane Taylor

Other makers multiplied the "X" for a more complex design:

Row 2: Allie McCathren, Abigail Vargas, Julie Burton

Row 3: Alia Sheikh, Augusto Garcia, Amy Morris
