Inspired by the work of Judith Salomon

Image
I see you, Judith Salomon- approx. 69x69 inches Back in 2019, I had the opportunity to visit the Cleveland Museum of Art where I came across this striking ceramic piece by Judith Salomon:   It just called to me. To be sure the rich color is quite appealing, but I wasn't really certain why this piece resonated with me so much. Then it hit me: "Hey, wait a minute! . . . That's the Log Cabin pattern!" I suddenly felt a deeper connection with this artist through her work. It made me smile.  Now, I've been to my fair share of art museums and admired many pieces of art in various mediums. But this experience was on a different level. I imagine that a museum curator's highest hope is that their patrons will have that kind of reaction to the work they present to the world. A small laundry bag and some shoe bags are a colorful, useful addition to any happy wanderer's travel gear.   Then again, now that people are heading back to the office and the commuting routine, maybe you know

Variation on the Theme

I had a lot of fabric left over from my last project in black and white, so I decided to try again with this concept.  The design was rotated 90 degrees and the shapes were elongated for a wall hanging over the bed. The quilting, which can be seen more clearly from the back, was done by hand and accentuates the movement of the shapes. (See  https://creativelifesampler.blogspot.com/2022/08/new-wall-hanging.html  for the first version of this design, and let me know which you prefer in the comments.)
