Last Quilt of 2022

Image
Just finished my last quilt of the year! This is the second time I have chosen to use the "color of the year" as a starting point for a word quilt that captures the feeling of the year, - or at least how I feel about the year.  By January of 2021 I knew what I wanted to say. It was right after the inauguration, always a momentous occasion for our country and, regardless of one's political leanings, generally regarded as a time of new beginnings. The word "Refresh" seemed to speak to the moment.  (Here's the link to see that quilt:  https://creativelifesampler.blogspot.com/2021/03/project-using-2021-pantone-colors.html ) 2022 was a different experience, on so many levels. First, Pantone chose periwinkle as their color of the year (COTY). It turns out that periwinkle is in the eye of the beholder and I simply couldn't find the right fabric for the project. With just a few weeks left in 2022, it seems like a good time to assess my creative output for the year. This has been a productive time for me in the hand work department.  Fragmenting the letter "Q" and then reconfiguring these shapes has been a fruitful exercise in imagination.    Q is for Quilt Series Top left: #2- Idea Crystalizing, Top right: #3- Quilter's Energy, Bottom: #4- Influencing After playing around with these options, I enlarged the design and experimented with the orientation of the composition: And played some more with color: I even got some piecing in with this queen sized variation on the Log Cabin block: I just have a few more things to finish up for the last piece of the year.  Hint: it will be a commentary on 2022, a memorable year on so many levels.

A Happy Announcement

This week I got the news that three of my quilts have been juried in to the Modern Quilt Guild's annual show, QuiltCon 2023!   Idea Crystalizing- Q is for Quilt #2 Choosing what will be included in a show is just the first stage of putting it together. 2089 quilts were submitted for consideration and the jury chose 481 quilts for the show, which will be in Atlanta, Georgia, this February. Once the quilts have all been gathered, they will go through another round of judging for awards.  ( Check out this link for more about QuiltCon:  https://quiltcon.com/quiltcon-2023/ ) Quilter's Energy-  Q is for Quilt #3 It sounds corny, but it really is humbling to be included in this event. The Modern Quilt Guild has branches around the world and it's members are awesomely talented and inspiring. Influencing-   Q is for Quilt #4 For my part I need to prep these pieces with labels and hanging sleeves before they're shipped off. So there's another thing to add to my "to do&qu
