The Ventura County Fair grounds is right along the beach front. Palm trees mix with the bright colors and exciting atmosphere of a county fair. There's lots of opportunity to soak in the traditional county fair vibe and to take some iconic pictures of Americana.
We got there just as it was opening up, not too crowded yet, and cool breezes made it comfortable to wander around for a few hours.
I thought I'd share my impressions with pictures.

Livestock buildings
People of all ages participate in the competitions at this fair; anything from cattle roping to table setting. There is an air of friendly competition all around. Professional artists have a building separate from the amateur/novice and youth groups. In this way, participants with the same level of proficiency and experience can compete fairly.
Table setting Competition in the Home Arts Building
The Youth Expo building is set aside for young participants to show their accomplishments. The youth exhibits mirror the ones at the adult level, - a great way to encourage the next generation of competitors!
Youth table settings competition
Bakers and jelly makers bring their best. Imagine the sugar high after judging this competition!
Ribbons everywhere

People share their passions, collections of memorabilia, gems, games; everything from trains, to Barbies, to Corning Ware:
We even ran across a new (to me, at least) craft, Tapigami, in the Youth Expo building. This is the art of using tape to create things. (Check it out with this link:

So there's something for everyone at the county fair!!!
