Need Much Validation?   (1 of 7)

It was a joy to send out the first three quilts of my necktie tribute series to my family and I was pretty pleased with the last two wall hangings. They had a few features I hadn’t seen in my limited exposure to quilt shows. I began to cherish visions of grandeur.

As my blogging plans began to gel, I thought “Wouldn’t it be cool if I could add a post that my work was accepted in a quilt show?” Mind you, I wasn't expecting any awards, I just thought it would be nice to be accepted. Then I could share the news in the spirit of “it’s an honor just to be considered”. And just one, it didn’t have to be both.

With the philosophy of many a competitor to “Go big or go home”, I naively chose the annual Road to California. I gathered together photos of the quilts, crafted some witty description blurbs, and sat down to enter these two quilts in my first juried show. When I filled out the last of the info and officially entered, I received my entry numbers: 13,626- Bob’s Star, 13,627- Confetti for Captain Klementz,… and this was a week before the deadline! I clicked the final button for payment and took a long shot. A really long shot.

A long shot that missed. After what seemed like a very long wait, I got two nice emails, one for each entry, with gentle encouragement to try again next year.

Oh, Well.

When I shared the news with my daughter, she said “Well, just blog about that!” Hmmm.

Last week I posted about the celebration of the Olympics' “thrill of victory and the agony of defeat”. There must be a lesson to pull from the wreckage of my best laid plans. I’m sure one will come to me. I’ll get back to you on that.

  1. well, they have no taste if they did not consider your work, since I have seen some they do choose and yours is equally if not better. No defeat, just continued participation and having tons of fun while doing it!!! Go team!

    1. Thanks for your support! I especially loved the idea of "No defeat...", and I think you caught my meaning behind the title of this post. Wait 'till you see tomorrow's post ;)
