Website Launch

Image
I'm happy to share that I've finally launched my website! This has been a long time in the making, mostly because I needed to build a body of work that represented my perspective. It also took a lot of soul searching to synthesize my personal artistic philosophy and develop a vision for the website. Of course, like my work, I imagine it will evolve over time, but this is my "first draft."  The plan going forward is to put out a quarterly newsletter that will replace the old weekly emails from my blog. Blogspot, which supports this blog, removed the option to reach readers through email a while ago. Since I'm technically challenged, it has taken some time to figure out how to reestablish those contacts. So if you want to receive quarterly up-dates from me, please check out my new website and subscribe to the newsletter!  Here's a link: Klementzhartecreations.com

Incorporating Gifted Fabric

Back in February a "quilty" friend gifted me a fat quarter of a really pretty cotton. I happened to have a bit of down time, so I rummaged through the scrap bin and found some cutaway leftovers from an earlier appliqu é d project which picked up the orange in my inspiration fabric. I might not have put these two colors together on my own, but this improv piece seems to glow with the energy of the color combination.  My grandmother always used to say "One man's trash is another man's treasure." Don't think my friend would ever regard a single piece of fabric as "trash," but I do think she decided that this fabric no longer spoke to her. I'm grateful she passed it on. It pushed me to look for a way to incorporate this cool pattern into a new project.  That's got me thinking about releasing some of my fabric stash into the wild. Maybe I don't need to hold on to fabric that doesn't inspire me to look for a way to use it. Somebody el

Trunk Show Prep & a Quote for the Day

For the things we have to learn before we can do them,  we learn by doing them.          Aristotle I think it's really healthy to take stock of the progress one makes on their creative journey  from time to time . Like so many things in life, that retrospective process is often put aside in favor of the tasks at hand. Those consuming activities bring us joy and fulfillment but they can also stir up frustration and discouragement. Sometimes we just need a little perspective. I've been given the opportunity to get that perspective, and it's come in the form of an invitation to speak at a quilt guild about my work. So, I'm gathering up my thoughts and choosing quilts to share for a trunk show (lecture) in May. It has made me a stop to appreciate the stages of my artistic evolution.  Lord's Snowfall (10/2015-2/2018) The presentation will start with early hand appliqu é d and hand quilted pieces. It will gradually move to the last quilt I shared in this blog. As you ca
